LPNY State Convention -- Saturday April 26, 2008, 9am to 5pm

Eric Sundwall of the Capital LP chapter was elected Chairman. Chris Edes and Mark Axinn were elected Vice Chairs. Joseph Dobrian and Gary Popkin were re-elected Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. Audrey Capozzi, M Carling, Richard Cooper, Estelle Edwards and Michael Reid were elected to the State Committee at-large positions.

We heard from Eminent Domain activist/author Mindy Thompson Fullilove, M.D. and many candidates for the Libertarian Presidential nomination or their representatives. Leading off the presidential presentations were former Democratic Senator Mike Gravel and Oregon Libertarian Michael Jingosian. At lunch, we heard from former GOP Congressman Bob Barr, who has become a Libertarian and sits on the Libertarian National Committee board. After that was Senate Candidate Michael Lurie from NY's Southern Tier and LP VP candidate Daniel Williams. Following them were more LP Presidential candidates: John Finan and Alden Link, Pauli C. on behalf of Steve Kubby, Ron Moore reading a note from candidate Christine Smith, Ray Carr for his wife and well-known libertarian author Mary Ruwart. We ended with a characteristically dynamic presentation from Wayne Allen Root, a former New Yorker (from Mount Vernon). We conducted a straw poll, which was won by Wayne Root, followed by Bob Barr and Mary Ruwart.

We collected names for Presidential Electors, and money was raised for the 2008 ballot access petitioning drive: $460 on the spot, as well as generous pledges from Chris Edes and Ron Moore.
